Pelita Nusantara School
♦ History
Pelita Nusantara was built on July 2004 under the
shelter of Yayasan Harapan Bangsa Indonesia Maju. The ideas of changing
public’s images that EDUCATION IN A NATIONAL PLUS WITH AN INTERNATIONAL
CURRICULUM IS EXPENSIVE AND USUALLY BASED ON RELIGION led Pelita
Nusantara as an agent of change and prove that it wasn’t true by offering a
concept of a global school with a minimum cost of school fees and granting
scholarship programs.
♦ School insight
VISION
“Be
Global, Live Harmony in Diversity”
As a part of a big nation, students in Pelita
Nusantara School are encouraged to appreciate and see diversity as a gift.
MISSION
By combining National and International curriculum,
sharing experience and values with many other schools, Pelita Nusantara enables
young people to become healthy, responsible citizen, environmentally aware,
understanding others and cooperative.
♦ Motto
‘A
Homey School for Future Leaders’
This motto was aimed and well-designed related with
our vision and mission. As a global school, we emerged to nurture our students
as leaders of our future in a homey surrounding thus they can feel safe and
secure as what they get at home. We teach them both academically and skills in
developing their multiple intelligences through our Leadership Building
program.
♦ School Curriculum
We use the National Curriculum from National
Ministry of Education (Diknas) and combine it with both international learning
curriculum under Cambridge International Examination, UK with the center number
ID257 and program called the ‘Active Learning’ with maximum capacity of 19
students (KG – Primary) and 25 (Secondary) each class.
Our concepts of ‘The Active Learning Program’ offers
our students the opportunities to be independent, tolerant, open-minded and
having the initiatives to do things by themselves. We guide and motivate them
to maximize their potentials so they will be prepared to self-actualize
themselves and face the challenges in their community and global world.
This uniquely blend of curricula is designed
purposely to cater to students in Indonesia who value a solid root in National
Curriculum yet want to take advantage of the best and latest learning
innovations from around the world. Starting May 2010, we adopt the Leader in Me
from 7 Habits™ Curriculum by Stephen Covey, USA, to develop their characters.

Primary provides an optional testing structure. Schools can assess learner
performance throughout the year or at the end of each year, which means schools
can assess
learning in a way that suits their needs and the needs of their learners.
} Classroom
} First-class teaching

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint
} Overview
} Cambridge
Primary Checkpoint offers feedback on a learners’ strengths and weaknesses in
the key curriculum areas of English, Mathematics and Science. Developed
exclusively for existing customers of Cambridge Primary, the tests are marked
by us and provide schools with an external international benchmark for learner
performance. The first tests was held in 2012.
What are the options?
Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests are available in English,
Mathematics and Science and can be offered at two sessions during the year. The
tests cover all major areas of learning in the Cambridge Primary curriculum
frameworks for English, Mathematics and Science.
Cambridge Checkpoint feedback reports
The diagnostic reports generated by Cambridge Primary Checkpoint
enable schools to:
tailor individual learners’ learning programmes
provide information for reporting to parents
compare the performance of all learners taking tests in that
session
manage learning programmes as learners move between schools
The test feedback measures a learners performance against a number
of variables including how a learner performed in relation to:
- the curriculum framework
- their teaching group
- a whole school cohort
- previous years' learners
Cambridge Secondary 1
} Overview
} Cambridge
Secondary 1 provides a seamless progression from Cambridge Primary - or can be
used as a standalone curriculum - to develop learners’ skills and confidence in
English, Mathematics and Science. It offers a curriculum framework for
educational success for learners, typically 11-14 years old, with an optional
testing structure.
Our curriculum frameworks for English also include an English as a second language option.

Benefits
International benchmark
Cambridge Secondary 1
incorporates internationally benchmarked tests. Tests for Cambridge
Checkpoint are standardised, set and marked by CIE, so provide an
international benchmark of student achievement enabling teachers to advise
learners and parents of the suitability of different progression routes.
Monitoring student progress
Cambridge Progression Tests and
analysis software provide detailed feedback on learners’ strengths and
weaknesses in the core skills of English, Mathematics and Science at the end of
each stage. Schools can use this feedback to improve teaching, support learning
and report student progress to parents.
Flexible programme, flexible
assessment
Schools can use Cambridge
Secondary 1 with other curricula. No part of it is compulsory, so
teachers can use the materials to suit their own situation. Teachers can use
the progression tests at the end of each stage; or at any point during the
year.
Teachers can continue to follow a
local curriculum, to meet the statutory requirements of their national system -
and at the same time, use the progression tests to enhance their teaching and
reporting.
Cambridge Checkpoint
} Cambridge Checkpoint tests are for use at the end of Cambridge Secondary
1. They are marked by CIE and provide schools with an external international
benchmark for student performance.
} Cambridge Checkpoint tests are available in English, Mathematics and Science
and can be offered at two sessions during the year. The tests cover all major
areas of learning required in the first years of an international secondary
education.
} The report on a candidate gives:
- a Cambridge Checkpoint score for the whole
subject
- a Cambridge Checkpoint score for each main
topic/skill
- a list
of the questions (and the sub-topics/skills) where the candidate's performance was particularly
strong or particularly weak
- an
attractively presented statement of achievement
Cambridge
IGCSE
} Overview
} Cambridge O Level, part of the Cambridge Secondary 2 stage, is
typically for 14-16 year olds. Cambridge O Level is an internationally recognised qualification equivalent to the
UK General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). Cambridge O Level
provides learners with excellent preparation for academic progression to
Cambridge Advanced including Cambridge A/AS Levels and Cambridge Pre-U.
} Cambridge O Levels have been designed especially for an international
market and are sensitive to the needs of different countries. These
qualifications are designed for learners whose first language may not be
English and this is acknowledged throughout the examination process. The curriculum also enables teaching to be placed in a localised
context, making it relevant in various regions.
A balanced curriculum
The Cambridge O Level
curriculum places emphasis on broad and balanced study across a wide range of
subjects. The curriculum develops learners' skills in creative thinking,
enquiry and problem solving and is structured so that learners attain both
practical skills and theoretical knowledge. In some parts of the world,
schools use Cambridge O Level as an international alternative to the local
government's examination. Universities in many countries, including Canada and
the USA, will admit learners on the basis of their Cambridge O Level
performances alone.
Assessment
Cambridge O Levels
are normally taken after completing the two-year course and a variety of
methods including written, practical and oral are used to assess learners. Learner performance is
benchmarked using five internationally recognised grades (A-E). Grade A is
awarded for the highest level of achievement, and grade E indicates minimum
satisfactory performance. CIE runs two sessions for Cambridge O Level -
May/June and October/November, although some subjects are only available in
May/June or October/November.
Cambridge Advanced
} Cambridge
International AS Level
} Cambridge
International AS Levels have half the content of the corresponding Cambridge
International A Level and may be completed in one year. Schools can offer
Cambridge International AS Level as a qualification in its own right or as a
stage on the way to Cambridge International A Level. Learners can study
Cambridge International AS Level alongside other subjects to increase breadth
in the curriculum and build further knowledge and understanding to other
subjects they are studying at Cambridge International A Level.
} Flexibility
} Schools and
learners find Cambridge International A and AS Levels very flexible. Schools
can offer almost any combination of the wide choice of subjects available.
Learners have the freedom to select the subjects that are right for them - they
either follow a broad course of study, or specialise in a particular area.
Learners can choose from a range
of assessment options:
|
Assessment options
|
Option 1 Take all papers of the Cambridge International A Level course in
the same examination session, usually at the end of the second year of study
Option 2 Take a 'staged' assessment route – take the Cambridge
International AS Level in one examination session and complete the final
Cambridge International A Level at a subsequent session*
Option 3 Take the Cambridge International AS Level only, either at the
end of a one-year or two-year course. The Cambridge International AS Level
syllabus content is half an Cambridge International A Level programme.
Assessment
Cambridge International A and AS Level examination sessions occur
twice a year**, in June and November, with results issued in August and January
respectively.
Cambridge International A and AS Levels use a wide range of
assessment processes and techniques to supplement formal written examinations -
orals, practicals, projects and coursework of differing types are all used in
various subjects where they are the most effective and appropriate means of
measuring attainment.
** Some subjects are only available in June or November.
Reporting of achievement
Each subject that a Cambridge international student takes at AS/A
Level receives a separately certificated grade. From 2010, the Cambridge
International A Level will be reported on a grade scale from A* grade, awarded
for the highest level of achievement, to E, indicating the minimum required
performance. Cambridge International Centres should note there is no A* grading
in the certification of Cambridge International AS Levels, which will continue
to run from Grade A to Grade E.
